I want to say pokemons art style made all the characters look very 2d, but it could be also that digimon had a consistent plot to develope their characters around wheras pokemon is a general plot with adventures of the week interconnecting. Having watched the English dub as a kid I loved the jokes and digimon battles. The original sub has comic relief but it has more of a focus on drama. As an adult, I enjoyed the character development and the relationships that form between the digidestined. At it’s core it has a solid story and good themes.
