Synopsis Bloodshot is a character in the Valiant Universe, a violent but heroic super-soldier with nanites in his blood that give him special powers. These powers include superhuman physicality, the ability to regenerate from any wound if he consumes enough matter, the ability to alter his body shape, and the ability to communicate with machines. His body was engineered by the secret government organization Project Rising Spirit to turn him into a living weapon. Harbinger Wars After escaping The Nursery with a group of psiot children, Bloodshot and Kara start making their way to Las Vegas to gather Generation Zero - the other group of escaped kids. On the way they are attacked by Toyo Harada and his Eggbreakers who want to take the kids into their own custody. Bloodshot's military strategies combined with the unlocking of hidden powers allowed Bloodshot to defeat Harada and reach Las Vegas. Once there Bloodshot and his kids faced off against Peter Stanchek and his Renegades who believed Bloodshot "The Psiot Killer" was here to kill or kidnap Generation Zero. Meanwhile Project Rising Spirit unleashed H. Corps upon Generation Zero to bring them back to P. After a bloody, brutal and fatal four way battle, it was Harada who came up on top as he captured Bloodshot, the Renegades and Generation Zero. The H. Way Despite the loss of half the team in their first mission back, P. kept the team operational and appointed Gunslingers as their leader. New members were recruited and Carol Jardine was made Director of the Lifeline department that is responsible for transmitting the team members their powers. The first crop of new members were Superstar, Granite and Disciple - two of whom where complete rookies to combat. The new teams first mission was to infiltrate Harada Global Conglomerates and recapture the rogue P. asset Bloodshot who was captured during the Harbinger Wars. The mission was successful but Maniac and Superstar, the only new recruit with combat experience, were killed in action. This left Gunslinger as the only original member of H. Corps still alive. Faced with more vacancies in the team, PRS CEO Morris Kozol offered Bloodshot the position of team leader in exchange for the one thing he desired most - the truths about his identity and past. Bloodshot took up the offer and Gunslinger was relegated to second in command. Get Some! While on a business trip to Nigeria, Morris Kozol was kidnapped by ex-P. Director Simon Oreck and his personal team of super powered psiots The Specialists. Oreck and his team were attempting to ransom Kozol back to P. and capture a working H. Corps implant in the process. However they were defeated by Bloodshot's team. but not before Oreck managed to escape. Mission Improbable After the team were reunited with Kozol, their next mission was to capture the leader of The Sect, Obadiah Archer and his immortal bodyguard Armstrong. The team managed to capture Archer but holding him was a different matter entirely. Archer proceeded to take out the members of H. Corps single handedly while Armstrong launched a rescue mission. On arriving at P. 's Nevada base Armstrong was met by Bloodshot who proposed a team-up. Armstrong swiftly punched Bloodshot in the mouth and after a lengthy and vicious brawl, the two agreed terms. Bloodshot negotiated Archer's release and covertly provided him information to take down P. These actions did not go unnoticed by Gunslinger and Carol Jardine. Meanwhile in the aftermath of the mission, H. Corp member Granite admitted her love for Kozol! Armor Hunters On the day when extraterrestrial zealots known as the Armor Hunters descended upon the Earth. Unity charter member Livewire was sent in search of the nanoactive hero by her commanding officer from MI6. Finding him at a basin in the amazon after he'd chosen to distance himself from civilization and it's chronic war effort. She would bring Ray out from the cold and enlist his aid against the genocidal warriors. He was initially assigned to guarding they're prisoner whom was once they're affiliate, but came under infection by the X-O Armor virus slating him for cleansing. When Lilt, one of the hunters stormed a M. E. O base withholding his quarry. Bloodshot was the only active Unity operative available to dispatch the current threat. But after the prisoner escaped his assailants custody, Bloodshot was left fighting this new war on two fronts. Battling both the hunter while recapturing his escaped convict. The Valiant While an age old adversary of the immortal protector Gilad Anni Padda was stalking the latest geomancer in his care. Powers & Abilities Bloodshot is a highly trained soldier gifted in hand to hand combat and the usage of military ordinance weapons. His primary weapons are the nanites that inhabit his bloodstream. They give him the ability to regenerate from all injuries from gunshot wounds, immolation, a missile strike, surviving with a lack of air, sub zero temperatures and even total incineration. He has also demonstrated a sonic screech that is painful to the human ear, causing massive head aches and disorientation. BloodShot also has the ability to change is skin pigmentation to his surroundings, rendering him invisible to the human eye. He has also displayed that he can also disguise himself to look like other people. Ray also has something called a neural synaptic discharge. It is a neural energy wave burst akin to an EMP, it's main use is for disrupting a psiots concentration and mental capability preventing them from using their inherent abilities. General Information Once Bloodshot becomes aware of himself in Bloodshot #2, the nanites start talking to Bloodshot through the personalities of his memory implants. The personalities refer to the nanite machines as 'Goldies. The nanites take on these personalities to give Bloodshot status updates of Bloodshot's health and surroundings. Nanites can become hungry and require protein to operate properly. Basic Information A nanite is a robot the size of a nanometer or smaller. Bloodshot has billions of these microscopic machines in his bloodstream. Biomolecular nanotech motors enhance strength, speed and reaction time beyond the limits of a normal human. Due to a nanites ability to create, manipulate and destroy matter on a subatomic level, the true limits of Nanites are unknown. Medical Applications Nanites possess the ability to reconnect torn skin, arteries, muscle tissue and nerve fibers; rebuild bone; and repair and reconstruct damaged organs to allow for rapid and complete recovery from extreme traumatic injury. Military Applications Nanite implants expand the range of sensory function, extending hearing into the ultrasonic and sight into the infrared and ultraviolet ranges. Possible Dangers Although it is highly unlikely, hostile forces with their own nanotechnology could theoretically hack and reprogram the nanites. Or use a high level EMP to shut down the nanites making him vulnerable to anything. Memory Implants Project Rising Spirit (PRS) has implanted several fictional wives, children, and friends to create every possible scenario. They basically create a 'false' life for Bloodshot that will motivate him to the fullest to complete the mission. He will kill anyone they if it means protecting his love ones. Many of these memories were created by ex-PRS scientist, Dr. Kuretich. After Dr. Kuretich released Bloodshot's mind from PRS control, Bloodshot now has all of these personalities floating around in his head. A dull film that is trying way too hard to be edgy and fun. Non of the characters ring true in any shape or form - sounding exactly like the rich actors trying their best to be "hard" and "street" that they are. The plot is predictable. The comedy tone deaf and flat. Truly an annoying privileged teen wanting to impress the adults. Oh and the joke at an animal's expense towards the end is painfully try-hard and beyond obvious. I got a free ticket. I'd suggest you don't pay for the renos on his country estate with your patronage.

Has no one in this movie seen ‘Alien? ” Maybe, maybe not, but it doesnt matter, as the thing doesnt get to do much in that moment. Welcome to the world of “Underwater, ” a movie whose own sea legs are so wobbly, youre never quite sure whether that weak fake-out was even deliberate. Directed by William Eubank from a script by Brian Duffield and Adam Cozad, it tries to establish some “Alien”-of-the-deep bona fides with its lead, Kristen Stewart, being lean, taciturn and intense in the opening scene. Stewart may well be as consequential a screen actress as Sigourney Weaver, but dreck like this isnt going to build a comparable filmography. The crew member who finds the gnarly thing is played by T. J. Miller. The film wrapped before his brush with the law. While this may have contributed to the movies long shelving, Millers hardly the only problem here. Its a challenge to keep action coherent and build suspense in the submerged environment simulated in “Underwater, ” but Eubank doesnt meet it, instead falling back on stale shocks that are not credibly buttressed by swelling bass effects on the soundtrack. And the final form of the menacing sea creature is in its way as laughable as the carpet monster in the 1964 cinematic mishap “The Creeping Terror. ” Underwater Rated PG-13 for gnarly looking things and bass-boosted shock scares. The film is produced by Chernin Entertainment and stars Kristen Stewart, Vincent Cassel, Jessica Henwick, John Gallagher Jr., Mamoudou Athie, and T. Miller. [5] It follows a group of scientists at the bottom of the ocean who encounter a group of creatures after an earthquake destroys their laboratory. Underwater was released in the United States on January 10, 2020, by 20th Century Fox. The film has grossed 37 million worldwide and received mixed reviews from critics. It is the last film released under the 20th Century Fox name, before the name was changed to 20th Century Studios by Disney, after their acquisition of Fox and its assets. [6] Plot [ edit] Tian Industries intends to drill seven miles to the bottom of the Mariana Trench for resources. A large earthquake hits, and a section of the Kepler 822 Station starts to suffer a catastrophic breach from the pressure. Norah Price, a mechanical engineer, and Rodrigo are able to escape the area and close it off, temporarily preventing further damage to the Kepler. They rescue Paul as they make their way to the escape pod bay. However, the three discover that all of the escape pods have already been deployed, with Captain Lucien being the only person in the area when the three arrive. The surviving crew reach a control base and find biologist Emily Haversham and engineer Liam Smith, who are unsuccessful in their attempts to make contact with the surface. Lucien recommends that they put on pressurized suits and walk one mile across the ocean floor to the Roebuck Station 641. They start to emerge from the station into a cargo elevator, but Rodrigos helmet is faulty and cracks from the pressure, killing him instantly. The surviving crew see a distress beacon from one of the escape pods below, and Smith and Paul go outside to investigate. As Smith and Paul arrive at the location, the pod has been ripped open and a body lies in the rubble. Paul inspects the body, only for a hatchling creature to emerge from it and attack him. Smith is able to shoot and kill it with a bolt gun, and they bring it inside. Studying the creature's body, Haversham realizes it is a part of a previously undiscovered species. The five begin to set out towards the Roebuck Station, but as they are walking, the Kepler explodes, causing debris to fly towards them. Smith is hit by the debris, but Price and Lucien manage to save him and bring him inside. They are able to make it to the meet-point station by taking an access tunnel, allowing them to charge and clean their suits, but find that Smith's oxygen source is badly damaged from the debris. As they make their way through the access tunnel, Paul is attacked by an unknown creature and is dragged underwater before being ripped out of his suit and killed. Before leaving the access tunnel, the team discover that Smith's damaged oxygen pod will cause him to have to breathe in toxic fumes from the explosion. Unwilling to leave another crew member behind, Price, Lucien and Haversham agree to help him walk, dragging him if they have to. The remaining four crew members press on and start their walk across the ocean floor, but a humanoid creature appears, dragging Smith into a cave. Lucien manages to pull Smith out, but then tries to go for Smith's bolt gun, allowing the creature an opportunity to drag Lucien up through the water and away from the other three. Price is dragged along with Lucien, but when the creature begins ascending, Lucien sacrifices himself so that Price may escape the increasing change in pressure. Price ends up at the abandoned Shepard Station and finds that Lucien worked there beforehand, causing suspicion as to what Lucien really knew about these creatures and their involvement with the drilling stations. It is also revealed that Lucien's daughter, whom he frequently discusses as a presence in his life, died years ago. Price tries to make contact with Smith and Haversham, but to no avail. She then gets a new pressurized suit and leaves the Shepard, continuing toward the Roebuck. Walking along the ocean floor, Price reunites with Haversham, dragging Smith towards the Roebuck Station, and proceeds to help. As they enter the station, they notice that there is a nest of the humanoid creatures hanging from the ceiling and try to sneak by, but Havershams suit, low on oxygen, begins to make noise, causing one of them to wake up and attack Price. Price is partially swallowed by one of the creatures, but is able to kill it and break free. Before more of the creatures can attack, an enormous creature reveals itself and causes an explosion. Haversham rescues Price and they continue their way into the Roebuck. The three are able to reach the escape pod bay, but Price discovers that only two work, with a third being damaged and unusable. Price and Haversham manage to get an ailing but still alive Smith into one of the pods, and Price eventually convinces Haversham to take the last one. As this is happening, the gigantic alpha creature, which allegedly attacked and destroyed their rig earlier, emerges from around the Roebuck surrounded by even more of the humanoid creatures. The creatures start to follow the two escape pods, while the alpha begins to attack the Roebuck. Price, knowing she is already going to die, raises the energy levels of the core engines so that they explode, killing the creatures and allowing the escape pods to reach the surface. The film ends with images of newspaper articles depicting Tian Industries and their attempts to cover up the incident, which includes keeping Haversham and Smith's testimonies classified. Brian Tallerico January 10, 2020 “Underwater” is the kind of no-nonsense B-movie with an A-list cast that Hollywood used to make more often. It's a lean and mean film that gets you into its action instantly and then doesnt release the pressure until the ending credits. In an era of increasingly long blockbusters with pretensions of greatness, its refreshing to see a tight movie that knows exactly what it needs to do and sets about doing it. Anchored by another impressive performance from Kristen Stewart and really effective cinematography from Bojan Bazelli, “Underwater” absolutely bullies you into liking it. There's no time not to. Some of the midsection succumbs to incoherent effects in which the murky setting overwhelms the ability to actually be able to tell what the heck is going on, but the flaws of the film never linger long enough to, sorry, sink “Underwater. ” Advertisement Stewart plays Norah, a worker on an underwater research site thats literally miles below the surface. An annoying opening narration that feels tacked on by a producer during the film's delayed post-production details how time starts to lose all meaning when youre that far underwater. Theres no light and you sometimes cant even tell if youre awake or dreaming. Just about then, while you're still trying to find your seat in the theater, all hell breaks loose. The hull of the rig starts to crack and explode. Norah runs to safety, eventually finding other survivors that include characters played by Vincent Cassel, Mamoudou Athie, John Gallagher Jr., Jessica Henwick, and T. J. Miller. Thats it. Its six people trying to survive a catastrophe that has killed the hundreds of other people aboard the site. No shots of emergency crews on the surface. No flashbacks. The escape pods have either been used or destroyed. Their only hope is to literally walk a mile along the ocean floor to another site and hope there are pods that work there. Then they discover theyre not alone. Yes, “Underwater” is half disaster movie and half monster movie, combining two B-movie genres that Ive always loved. As “Underwater” shifts from something more akin to “ The Poseidon Adventure ” to a submerged riff on “ Alien, ” the transition doesnt always work but director William Eubank directs his cast to incredibly strong in-the-moment performances that hold it together. We need to believe Norahs plight, and Stewart sells the immediacy of her waking nightmare, well-assisted by Henwick and Cassel in particular. (On the other hand, Millers schtick gets old fast, but thats the only weak link. The writers tack on a few too many manipulative back stories to try to heighten the emotional stakes, but thats commonplace in both genres on which “Underwater” is riffing. It also helps that the producers of “Underwater” tapped the eye of the great Bojan Bazelli to shoot the film. The cinematographer behind “ A Cure for Wellness ” and “ The Ring ” knows how to build tension with a combination of extreme close-ups that put us inside Norahs helmet while never losing the geography of where these people are fighting against incredible odds. When the movie becomes a full-out monster flick, Bazelli and Eubank could have dialed down the underwater murk a few degrees, but its still an effective film visually, the value of which cannot be understated. Most bad B-movies like “Underwater” rely on a steady diet of jump scares and shaky camerawork to disguise their low budgets and lack of visual acuity. What sets this apart is that theres an artistry to the visuals and captivating sound design. The film is filled with flashing lights of broken or breaking equipment and the din of metal creaking under the pressure of water. Its all necessary to enhance the tension. What I think I responded to the most in “Underwater” is its relentlessness. Its almost real time for at the least first chunk of the movie, and the immediacy of the filmmaking gives it power. "Underwater" discards all that on-the-surface nonsense that worse movies would have forced viewers through, in which we meet the characters and foreshadow weird happenings underwater. Theres no time for that. Dont show up late. Its a film thats about panic, and how unexpected heroes can be made through instinctual response to adversity. That, and underwater monsters. The final act of “Underwater” will likely divide some people, but Im a fan of when a B-movie really goes for it, and there are a few beats in this ones final scenes that are impressively ambitious. My kids are at an age where theyre fascinated by the idea that there could be species so far below the oceans surface that we have yet to identify them.
